Head of School

Susan Eriksson – Head of School

I have over 20 years experience in teaching and leading both UK and International schools. I passionately believe that every child only has one chance in their primary education and it is our responsibility to ensure that they have the best possible educational experience. We must provide an environment that supports, challenges and stimulates them, whilst allowing them to take time to be a child and discover the world.
In my spare time I am a keen walker and photographer.

Stephen Marr – Deputy Head of School

I am Stephen Marr and I am the Deputy Head of School as well as the Head of Primary. I have the privilege of working alongside extremely talented and dedicated teachers and together we are committed to providing every pupil with an education that will recognise their strengths, celebrate their achievements, challenge and inspire.
I thoroughly believe that learning should be fun and personalised and we should strive to produce active learners. Teaching should also have variety and impact; academic as well as non-academic activities to allow children to work collaboratively and build self-confidence. Finally, children need to feel safe and happy, and supported and challenged throughout their learning journey.

Ela Tudoran Cable – Head of Nursery

I am Ela Cable and I coordinate the nursery department at InSPE. I started my journey as a teacher 17 years ago and since then I have actively promoted the importance of early years. As a teacher and a mother of 3 wonderful girls I appreciate the uniqueness of each child, and respect and respond to every child’s feelings, needs and interests. I support active learning in a happy, safe, stimulating and exciting learning environment. I believe in play as a fundamental right for all children. Play in a well-planned and sensitively thought-out environment is very powerful in promoting children’s development and learning.
The curiosity, enthusiasm and humour of young children is a constant motivation and inspiration and learning together has brought so many unique, happy memories; it is a pleasure to go to work every day knowing many more are just around the corner.

Andreea Alexandrescu – Pink class

My name is Andreea Alexandrescu and I have been working in the Nursery Department for the last ten years. Young children live in the present moment; they are active and curious, eager to explore and to learn new things every day! Our school strives to sustain and encourage all children to discover their uniqueness and supports all individuals in developing their true potential! As a teacher, I strongly believe in these values and I’m happy to take an active part in the children’s learning and development!

Andreea Zarcu – Pink class

My name is Andreea Zarcu and I started working at InsPE as a Nursery Teacher 10 years ago. I find teaching young children a very exciting and challenging job. The first seven years are the most important stage of a person’s life. This is the time when children learn and discover the world around them using their whole body and through all their senses. Our children count on us! They give us unconditional trust and this should encourage and give us the power to be good role models.

Rebecca Dumitrascuta – Orange class

My name is Rebeca Dumitrascuta, and I was born in the Transylvania area. I worked as a teacher for two years in Timisoara, and I am now a nursery teacher at InSPE since February 2014. I love working with children, and I learned from them to enjoy every little thing, to be happy, and to see the world in an optimistic way. I am honest, patient and creative, and I like that working with children gives me the opportunity to express myself and to be part of their development.

Adina Susnea – Orange class

My name is Adina Susnea and I started working at Inspe in January 2006. I have been training towards a career in education and towards working with children since the early years of high school, which is where I was trained to become a teacher specialiased in early years education. Later, I continued my professional development with a diploma from the University of Bucharest, Faculty of Education.
From the moment I visited INSPE, I realised that teaching could be fun for both the children and teachers and most importantly that I would love to be part of the team. I believe that starting to teach children from early years has a positive impact on children’s wellbeing and development, opening young children’s minds to new concepts and ideas on a daily basis.

Gina Hughes – Orange class

My name is Gina Hughes and this is my second year working in INSPE in the nursery department. I have been teaching for over 18 years and have taught in International schools in Italy, Turkey and Spain.
I believe that every child should have a safe and loving environment in order to strive. Learning through play is important for a child to develop in the early years and I ensure that all children are happy and most importantly have fun. I love teaching nursery age children as I can watch them develop and grow into confident, happy and independent children.

Martha Kouzeli – Green class

I am Martha Kouzeli and I have been working as a nursery teacher at INSPE for 8 years. I believe that each child is unique and as a teacher I have to inspire them, giving the best opportunities for each one to develop as a unit, to gain confidence, creativity and to be able to celebrate community. A confident, independent child is ready to start their journey in the world. It is a joy to work with children, the energy that they give you and the satisfaction that you take when you see their progress is the best reward for a teacher. I love being around children and I am happy to be a member of the INSPE community.

Ana David – Green class

My name is Ana David and I am glad to say that I have been working at Inspe for the last three years as a Green class teacher. Ten years ago I started working as a therapist for children with special educational needs and then specialised in a program called “Learn with music”.

Working with children has always brought me joy and fulfilment and the experience of early years teaching has been by far the most rewarding. I always thought one should invest in life changing projects and its work should reflect a part of his beliefs and heart. This is why I chose to work with children. I look forward to see where this journey will take me

Tom Fulton – Primary 1

I am Tom Fulton and this is my third year teaching Primary 1 at InSPE. Since Graduating with a B.Ed in Primary Education from Aberdeen University, I have taught all over Scotland as well as in Greece, Germany and elsewhere in Bucharest. My love of teaching stems from many years of coaching various sports whilst also competing at University, International and professional level. I’m also a self-taught multi-instrumentalist, having tutored several instruments. I love to teach in a fun active way which enables me to use my ’talents’ to help the children learn.

Melinda Sali – Primary 1

My name is Melinda Sali and I started teaching 6 years ago. I am trained in Child Psychology and Alternative Educational Programmes. This is my third year teaching Primary 1 and I believe it’s a great privilege to have the opportunity to impact and empower children. I want each of my students to know that they are loved, important and unique. Therefore, I am committed to create a classroom atmosphere that is stimulating, ensuring that every child’s abilities are addressed. Inspe offers me a great environment to develop my teaching skills and to apply my knowledge.

Gabriela Vargyas – Primary 1

I am Gabriela Vargyas and I am teaching in Primary 1. I am thrilled to work as a teacher at InsPE in what I believe is the best job in the world. I graduated from Bucharest University -English section and I have a Master in Communication in Mass-media. I started teaching eight years ago and my teaching experience includes several years teaching in kindergarten, state school or center languages to children or adults. As I went through my academic career I looked back on the values the ideas that had been instilled in me as a child by my elementary school teacher, and once I realised the impact that one person had on me, everything clicked. I believe in our future and I also believe that children are our future. I became a teacher with hopes of affecting students the way I was affected when I was young. Providing them with more than just knowledge but a basis and a respect for learning and growth and curiosity that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. My beliefs on teaching are short and simple- Everyone Can. I believe that if someone is willing to do something or learn or grow then everyone can accomplish, succeed and grow. It is my philosophy that what students are exposed to and develop when they're younger can have an enormous impact on the rest of their lives and it is my mission to instill in my students the belief that they too can do anything they set their minds to, and with my help I hope to guide them along that path.

Becky Lownds – Primary 2

I am Becky Lownds; I have worked at InSPE for 6 years. I love working with children and whilst being at InSPE I have had the pleasure to watch the children grow and develop. One of the things that I am very proud of is being involved in raising money to develop a playground for Harap Alb orphanage by organising a dinner theatre. I find being a teacher very rewarding and enjoy being part of the InSPE team.

Madalina Nita – Primary 2

My name is Madalina Nita and I love to teach! I am the eternal student dedicated to learn and teach. I am in my 10th year at InSPE, but I have been a teacher since I graduated!
I enjoy being part of children’s life and development and I learn alongside them! Children teach you humour and the joy of life. They are so serious yet fun at the same time and it’s a joy being part of their life.
I enjoy gardening, sewing, designing jewellery, cloths and reading.

Adriana Serban – Primary 2

My name is Adriana Serban and I have been teaching for more than 15 years. For me, teaching is more than passing on information, shaping their skills or contributing to building their characters. It is showing them how to learn and how to choose the information that they are exposed to. I encourage them to try different ways to solve a challenge even if they make mistakes, as this is the fastest way to grasp the idea. I guide them in sensorial learning revealing different practical activities.
I love reading and travelling. I like to discover new places and rediscover the ones that I already know. At the same time I also like to travel in the magnificent world of knowledge filled with mystery and accomplishments. I enjoy the journey that I take together with my pupils.

Melany Patrascu – Primary 3A

My name is Melany Williams-Patrascu. I studied Education and International Relations because I love teaching, and I love learning about the world. I have enjoyed the opportunity teaching at InSPE affords me to incorporate global perspectives in my teaching.
I love teaching because the children’s enthusiasm for learning makes every day we spend together and each topic we explore a new adventure. I believe children learn best when their natural curiosity is fostered and creativity is encouraged. My goal is to encourage my students to love learning, to strive to achieve their highest potential, to be compassionate and responsible citizens, and to actively pursue a healthy lifestyle.

Irina Orfanakis - Primary 3A

My name is Irina Orfanakis and I have been teaching in Inspe for 15 years. During this time, I have learned that a successful teacher is more than a deliverer and that the recipe for success lays ultimately in the bond created by the children and teachers. I learned that every child is an important individual that needs to be cherished, supported, listened to and respected. I learned to appreciate the team work among teachers and to benefit each day from each other’s strengths and knowledge in order to provide the most inspiring learning experience for each child. Every day I try to stimulate, provoke and light the spark of curiosity in every child while I guide them into their future. I spend every day learning TO TEACH.

Lisa Bulloch – Primary 3B

Having been part of international learning communities in Italy, Russia and Kenya I have had the privilege to work alongside children from all over the world. This is a unique position to share my ideas and knowledge with them but also to be impacted in return by the children as we exchange our experiences and backgrounds together. I am an educator who believes in helping the children realise their potential as individuals and global citizens and coming to INSPE has given me the opportunity to do this first hand as part of a caring and dynamic teaching staff.
I am excited to rise to the challenge of my new teaching role and exploring what life in Bucharest has to offer.

Alan Asher – Primary 4

My name is Alan Asher and this year I am teaching Primary 4, together with Iulia Mircea. For many years I taught in a number of schools in my home country of Scotland and then made the decision to broaden my horizons through teaching abroad. Initially I taught in Kuwait and now I have entered my third year at InSPE and I can happily say that I work alongside very talented and professional colleagues. I thoroughly enjoy teaching children of many nationalities who come into our school full of enthusiasm, with a thirst for knowledge and a willingness to learn.

Iulia Mircea – Primary 4

My name is Iulia Mircea. I started in education ten years ago and every single day has been both a learning experience and a pleasure. I came to InSPE three years ago and, for me, it really is the best school in Bucharest. I have worked alongside some fantastic colleagues whom I have learned so much from but like to think they also have learned a great deal from me.
My inspiration for teaching really comes from the children themselves, it is a joy and a privilege to work with young children and to realise the difference that we, as teachers, make in shaping and guiding them on the path to success.

Stuart Harrison – Primary 5

I am Stuart Harrison and am currently teaching the Primary 5 class along with Diana Mihalache. I am from England, although I have been living in Romania for close to eight years now. I trained for teaching in the UK and worked in two different schools. I have also taught in two different schools in Bucharest. I am delighted to work at InSPE as I appreciate the ethos and values here and can feel liberated to teach to my personal strengths and therefore better support the pupils in their learning.

Diana Mihalache – Primary 5

I am Diana Mihalache and I am in my 9th year at InSPE. I am a Primary 5 teacher and I am running an Intensive French Club in the morning for intermediate learners. I love teaching and I am always looking for new and exciting ways to encourage the children to learn.
I truly believe that excellence comes with passion, dedication and positivism. An enthusiastic teacher will inspire the children to try their best and to believe in themselves. I am lucky to be part of a great team, to work in an international stimulating environment and to be rewarded every single day by the achievements of my students.

Jane Swiers – Primary 6-7

I am Jane Swiers and I work in Primary 6-7. I enjoy working collaboratively in the classroom with my colleague to provide the children with a variety of academic and creative experiences. Two heads are definitely better than one!
Children need a calm and ordered learning environment, with a high teacher to child ratio, in order that their individual talents and interests can be recognised and encouraged. They flourish best and enjoy their learning when it includes real activities and experiences to learn from in addition to the more traditional academic work expected of them.

Mihaela Christescu – Primary 6-7

I am Mihaela Christescu and this is my third year at InSPE. I have been a teacher for thirteen years and I have worked in various international and state schools. I consider myself to be a warm and caring teacher who wants all children to be successful learners and works hard to create a classroom atmosphere that is stimulating, encouraging and adaptive to the various needs of my students.
I am interested in discovering and promoting creativity while teaching as I consider creativity to be about generating ideas or producing things which later on can be shaped into something of great value. This often involves being inventive, ingenious, adaptive and innovative - skills and abilities we all should have the chance to develop.

Daniel Ciulinaru - Physical Education

I am Daniel Ciulinaru, Physical Education teacher at InSPE. I love sports, teaching and motivating children, and the sense of fulfilment seeing hard work find success in a game one or any other athletic performance achieved.
I started working with children at InSPE 3 years ago and one of the most important things I have learned so far is that not only do children learn from us, adults, but we, as adults, equally learn from them. If we realise this, then we can really build valuable relationships with our children here at InSPE.

Adriana Dima – Modern Foreign Languages

I graduated from university with a degree in Spanish and English. I spent the first years of my life in Morocco and France, thus French became my second language.  This is my 4th year at InSPE. Here I teach French, Spanish and Romanian. I run the Intensive French Club (the Advanced group) and I am proud that our school is the only international school in town (apart from the French school) participating in the DELF Primary exam.  I am also the editor of the school newsletter, The InSPE Gazette.  In my free time I like to play the piano and to write.  I believe not only in teaching children a foreign language, but mostly in inspiring in children the love for languages.

Maria Tomescu - SEN/Pshichologist

My name is Maria Tomescu and I am a licensed Psychologist and Psychotherapist for children, adolescents and adults with over 12 years of experience in the field.
I joined the InSPE team over 9 years ago where I also coordinate the Program for Children with Special Needs.
At InSPE I am available at request to all children/students, parents and staff for any concerns that they may have. My role at the school consists in that of counseling students that can benefit from it, individual parenting sessions, supporting children with special needs, liaising with teachers and parents, offering suggestions to teachers and working together to support the child’s needs, as well as finding other efficient ways to assist children in their classroom.
I believe that each child is unique and should be treated with respect and encouraged to reach their full potential regardless of what that might be. As all children are confronted with different developmental stages which they cope with in various ways, communication is crucial for children and it is an important tool to ensure their needs are met.
It is important for you to know that communication between you, your child and I is confidential unless it involves self-harming or harming others in which case other adults that can support will be involved. In most cases, after having a meeting with you, you will receive a summary of our meeting, which underlines the main discussed points.
