- Why do you use the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence?
- The Scottish Curriculum is flexible and enriched allowing for creative, engaging and relevant teaching and learning. It promotes children to be creative, active, independent and confident learners. The Scottish Curriculum focuses on children as individuals and encourages skills for learning, skills for life and skills for work.
- What homework will my child get?
- Homework is age dependant and individualised based on the needs of each child. Therefore the amount of homework given varies. Homework tasks may include: reading, maths, spelling, problem solving activities and topic related activities.
- How can I help my child at home?
- Spend time reading with your child, and let your child see you enjoying books. Check your child’s homework but try to let them complete it independently. Talk to them about their interests, the world around them and current affairs.
- How often will my child read?
- Your child will read every day in class in different ways, e.g. reading instructions, enjoying books in the class library, finding information on the computer, guided reading sessions etc. Levelled reading books will be sent home on a regular basis depending on your child’s needs. As your child becomes more fluent, they will be able to choose from a variety of books.
- How can I contact the teachers?
- You can contact the teachers first thing in the morning or after school. You will be given the class e-mail addresses at the start of the school year or when your child starts school. You can also contact the office: office@inspe.ro
- How often will we have meetings with the teachers?
- The school schedules parent/teacher meetings three times a year. These meetings give you the opportunity to discuss your child’s progress. We can schedule additional meetings if and when required. For general questions the teachers are always available for a quick word at the beginning and end of the day.
- How often will we receive written reports?
- You will receive written reports twice a year, at the end of the first and third terms. You will receive a photo disc at the end of term two.
- What happens if my child has an accident?
- One of our first aid trained staff will attend to your child and we will contact you immediately. It is important that the office has your up-to-date contact details in case of an emergency.
- How do you evaluate my child’s progress?
- Teachers evaluate children continuously through observations, written work and assessments.
- What if my child doesn’t speak English?
- Children are given support to help them learn English and they adapt very quickly. Children acquire English more quickly when they are immersed in it, therefore English is the only language used in school.
